Budget and Finance
  • Build new, readable budgets from the ground up for all departments, including the Board of Education.
  • Create an “open” budget process by immediately releasing all budget proposals online.
  • Improve efficiencies in all municipal departments, consolidating positions and functions where possible.
  • Pool our purchasing power with other municipalities and county agencies to obtain reduced rates on common services.
  • Privatize basic township services.


Land Use and Development
  • Encourage new commercial ratables to offset our residential tax burden without compromising historic character, cultural diversity, and overall quality of life.
  • Meet Montclair’s affordable housing commitments.
  • Preserve existing open spaces and seek opportunities to create new open spaces.
  • Ensure all development projects plan for adequate onsite parking and traffic flow.
  • Improve parking conditions around all public schools.


Schools
  • Maintain and continually improve the quality of Montclair’s public schools by opening communication among the BOE, superintendent, township council, and the citizenry.
  • Put to referendum the choice between an appointed or elected Board of Education.
  • Reevaluate new school construction.
  • Meet the educational needs of all of Montclair’s children.


Parks and Recreation
  • Develop new bike and pedestrian pathways throughout Montclair.
  • Complete restoration and improve maintenance of all township parks.
  • Restore the Clary Anderson Arena and all town pools.
  • Create a town wide youth center through private funding.


Environmental
  • Promote energy conservation, renewable energy resources, and elimination of pesticides and other contaminants.
  • Enforce idling laws.
  • Purchase recycled materials for township use.
  • Purchase environmentally friendly work vehicles.
  • Promote recycling to increase levels by 50%.
  • Establish a Shade Tree Commission.


Municipal Services and Communications
  • Design a complaint tracking system to improve response time and customer service.
  • Implement a web-based/phone based bulky waste pick-up program.
  • Develop a regular schedule with respect to tree maintenance.
  • Establish an online township service center on the township website.
  • Continue to improve the town website and other ways of communicating with residents, seeking input on major policy decisions and disseminating key information.


Community Enrichment
  • Support the arts community and promote Montclair as a regional destination for arts and culture.
  • Expand our relationship with Montclair State University to create programs accessible to Montclair residents.
  • Ensure that all township properties are easily accessible for persons with disabilities.
  • Expand programming in our public libraries.
  • Expand outreach programs by our Health Department and Office of Aging.
  • Preserve and protect historic and architecturally significant buildings, monuments, and neighborhoods to preserve Montclair’s unique aesthetics and heritage.


Public Safety
  • Work with law enforcement to deploy new technology and neighborhood-based programs for crime prevention.
  • Implement and enforce anti-littering laws.
  • Establish a rational road and sidewalk repair program.
